I’m a big reader and I noticed this area of the forum was a bit neglected, so I figured it would be worth starting a thread where everybody just spouts off about what they are currently reading.

I am currently reading a novel, The Lost Scrapbook by Evan Dara. Dara is the pen name of an anonymous American author, and this is his first novel. This is my second time reading it, and it is even better the second time around. It starts out very disjointed, just hopping around from scene to scene (mostly dialogues and monologues) among a large cast of characters. I won’t spoil anything in case anybody here wants to pick it up, but things take a seriously harrowing and heartbreaking turn in the final third. Quite formally daring and experimental, but beautifully written. Easy to binge.

On the side I’ve also been reading the latest NOON Annual. New stuff from some of my favorite short fiction writers like Christine Schutt, Kathryn Scanlan, Lucie Elven, Lydia Davis, and Nathan Dragon. Plus, as always, exciting stuff from totally new names to me.

I think my ideal life would be spending all day drinking coffee, taking snuff, sitting in a comfortable chair and reading. Weekends just aren’t long enough. Should any wealthy eccentrics desire to bankroll such a lifestyle, please do get in touch.
