    On Facebook someone was asking about storage and fridge or freezers.  Freezers are a no go. The fridge is ok for a short time but I wouldn’t leave them in there more than a couple of months, at the most.

    Make yourself a humidor. Humidors can be very expensive but something as simple as a well sealed wooden box and a little ingenuity is all you need. Take an old tin and make about 20 pinholes in the lid. Fill it with water and place it in the box. Surround it with your snuff and close the lid.

    Kilner jars make excellent alternatives but don’t use plastic Tupperware. I don’t need to do this, but like most of the guys on here, I like to experiment. Most were fine but after about a year the plain snuff had a slight Tupperware smell.

    <p style=”text-align: left;”>What about areas with hot, humid summers? I use the mini fridge in the summer, as warm as I can get it, about 54°F. Then in winter, I unplug it, as it stays in a rather cool room, anyway. If I could climate control at 65°F all year, I would, with 70% humidity. Wish I could figure that one out without spending 5 bills on an automated humidor..</p>

    What humidity would you need in a humidor to keep it fresh? I have a couple currently in use, but I could consolidate into one and use the other for my snuff.

    I put some of my larger amounts in mason jars.  I understand that if they’re kept airtight in a cool place, they should keep for at least a year.

    Is that not true?

    I do the same and have for years. I believe it will keep it fresh indefinitely. I have pipe tobacco that has been stored this way since 2007, and when I crack one open it is just as fresh as when I jarred it. The pipe tobacco jars are in the basement, in boxes on shelves. those canning jars are so air tight I hear they will keep actual food fresh for years! Tobacco’s are easy work for them.

    Was interested in this.  Good to know that freezers are not recommended, I used to put snus in them (sealed freezer bag) for longer term storage, otherwise in a similar sealed bag in the fridge. Speaking of Snus, off topic, did Snubie get his channel banned?

     

    Also good to know about plastic containers. Will try a mason jar or something similar, eventually looking to get a small humidor.

    Still waiting on my first order I hope it comes soon!  Hoping tomorrow or I’m kayaking across the Atlantic to knock on Toque’s door 😆

    I vacuum seal them, have recently opened a tin that’s more then 20 years old and still good

    I’m one of the many who shopped to excess during the EU TPD scare, and still have a few lifetimes worth left.

    My bulk and frankenblends are stored in one litre clip top glass jars. I also have smaller screw top jars for single blends in smaller quantities. They don’t keep perfectly moist, but I always rehydrate a snuffbox when I full it (not the parent jar), and have suffered no significant loss of scents.
    <p style=”text-align: left;”>Factory tins from everyone except Toque have rusted over the last decade or so. Not all, but enough to rule that out as long term storage. I need to transfer the rest of my tinned stash to Mylar pouches (air squeezed out but not vacuumed) at some point. From there, it will go into the small screw top jars.
    Toques not bought in economy pouches can all stay in their tins. Although the 10x10g tins (100g) are almost as expensive as 6x25g tins (150g), I prefer the smaller tins because they are very pocketable. I don’t buy often these days due to having such a big stash, but do like to keep a few of those 10g tins handy.
