I arrived on this forum after perusing a Facebook post about the snuff intake of Srila Prabhupada. Named Abhaya Caran in 1896 by his cloth merchant father Gour Mohan De he attended Scottish Churches College in Calcutta and studied English and philosophy under the tutelage of John Scrymgeour and William Urquhart. While at the college he became an admirer of a senior pupil Subash Chandra Ghosh. Subash promoted armed resistance to the British rule and went on to become the president of the National Congress Party.
