Here’s an idea for a rappee for you that might be a little ‘off the wall’ so to speak. My lockdown project has been to grow a few dozen plants of my own tobacco, specifically Burley and Havana 608. After colour curing and 3 months in the kiln, I de-vein it and compress it into plug with a vice, inside the piston of a front brake caliper from a car. This leaves me with a ‘puck’ of tobacco around the size of a snuff tin, which I grate into a coarse snuff whenever I need some. I understand that using a rasp like this is a very old-school way to make snuff and it has several benefits: the coarseness can be controlled by the fineness of the rasp used and the pressure applied, the tobacco flavours stay extremely fresh as they’re captured inside the puck, and a very small container can contain a high mass of compressed tobacco. One of the 10g tins could likely hold 25g of plug. As far as I know, nobody is making snuff designed to be grated like this any more. Just an idea.
