    Anyone else have this issue?

    I’m finding that I am having trouble detecting citrus flavors in snuffs. I’ve tried Toque Lime Toast, Toast & Marmalade and St. Clements as well as McChrystals Sicilian Burst and am getting little to no citrus notes from them. I have no issues detecting and enjoying other flavors in snuffs so it’s not a general issue with snuff.  I can easily detect (and enjoy) citrus in foodstuffs (I love lemon especially) so it’s not a general olfactory failure.

    If it had been just one or two tins, I’d write it off as a bad batch or bad product, but multiple types from different manufacturers suggests that I am the problem. I am in my early 60s and I know the senses can become duller with age, perhaps I’m too old for such youthful joys?  Any older snuffers have anything to contribute?

    That is a fascinating condition.  Many years ago, I was a wine lecturer at Westminster College, and I remember having a conversation about olfactory stimulation as we age. In the world of wine we have to keep smelling everything to keep those scent memories fresh.  The fact that you can pick it up on the fruit and not in the snuff is very puzzling, and the only suggestion I have is to mention it to your Doctor.  Sorry not to be more helpful.

    Thanks Roderick, I’m leaning towards it being an age-related issue. I have a tin of Ozna O-Type on order and will see how (or IF) that tastes before I give up on citrus snuffs.

    Follow up: I indeed can detect citrus in O-Type as well as bergamot in M&W Mature Crumbled and WoS Grand Cairo, so it appears that I got some bum tins and/or I can detect only certain citrus. Interesting.
