Little post to tell you all about my two recent finds. Two excellent snuffs which are good alternatives to traditional SPs.
-Gawith Hoggarth SP is rather dry and medium-ish grind. Medium to light brown in colour. At first you get the bergamot, quite perfumy for the first 2 seconds, but then quickly mellows in a sort of subtle citrusy sweetness. The tobacco base is a delicious kendal fermented barnyard-ish type and rapidly takes the main role with just enough citrus to be noticed. Absolutely one to try.
-Toque Berwick brown. Rather dry, but maybe less than it looks. Medium to fine grind. Dark brown colour. The moment it hits your nostrils you get loads of citrus and a “sweet” pepperyness. Nothing overwhelming though. Then you notice strong leather and barnyard notes fighting for the lead role with a persistent presence of citrus and spice. In this one the citrus feels primarily like lemon to me (and very natural). In short this is a very well balanced dark spicy tobacco heavenly paired with citrus. For the ones who are snus enthusiasts, this would be the equivalent of General original or even closer to General Onyx silver. Rich and sophisticated (as opposed to bold and rustic), this is a very special one.
Lastely they’re both very easy to take and have longer lasting aroma than your average English snuff. Also, as a bonus, they are better decongestants that any traditional SPs.
