Good Morning! I recently came into possession of my grandfathers effects and he had about 12 tins of Toque snuff from 10 years ago. I was wondering if there is anyway to reinvigorate these snuffs, he really loved this hobby and am following in his footsteps. Thank you and I appreciate any help given!!!

Actually tobacco is in my families blood as my tribe is one of the few that still grows very old and original to our region tobacco. Unfortunately the art of snuff making within my family died with my grandfather. Doing my best to piece together his methods so I can continue his art.
From what I can tell, besides his own, he really liked toque as he only had these stashed with his personal stash, he had a major sweet tooth so it would explain some of the flavors he had ha!!!
What are some of your favorites? I am quite new to the world of tobacco outside my families

What flavours were they? One or two flavours are so strong they will last for decades. Absinthe being the longest lasting.
If you get a small jar and put pin pricks in the lid, then fill it with cooled boiled water. Next, loosen the lids of the old tins and the water jar them put in a box, tub something with a lid. this will rehydrate them. Still might not save them but might be interesting to try.

Thank you, tobacco is much more special than most people realize, its so much more than cigarettes. As for what we grow, my family has been growing about 20 varieties which is used across the entirety of America by all tribes. As for cultivar, we have 15 that my family has been carefully maintaining as they are the most sacred of plants used from everything from <span id=”Takeaways_Rape_Hape_Sacred_Tobacco”>Hapé to Medicine. Unfortunately I don’t have to words in english to tell you the scientific names. The region I am in is southwest United States and upper Sonora Desert so it is a cool arid climate and lots of sun!!!
I am excited to try the toque Spanish Gem and the Toque Original. My Grandfather was good friends with the man who made the original Spanish Gem and am excited to see this version of it, and I love to see the original of someones passion as its the first expression!!!
What kind of tobacco are you growing??? Do you only snuff or do you have other ways you partake? Do you have any recommendations for someone completely lost by the overwhelming options???

Hello! My grandfather had the flavors Original(which was empty), chocolate, peppermint, vanilla, menthol, quit, peanut butter, toffee, espresso, cherry, blueberry, and grapefruit. I have tried all above methods and they all worked great for re-hydrating the snuff itself but it looks like the flavors themselves are gone. Its a shame as I was hoping but I really appreciate all of both your help!!!

Yes, I can see those would have lost their flavour. I can tell you your Grandfather had a very good sense of smell, apart from Blueberry, they are all favourites and top notch Toques. Grapefruit is my favourite but loses its scent very quickly after opening the tin.
I do have a tiny amount of the original Spanish Gem, and in honour of your Grandfather, I would love to send you a couple of pinches.

His full name was Kutwaate Olin but truth be told I don’t know what name he went by on the internet.
You sir, honor me beyond words with your offer. I couldn’t possibly accept that and instead request that you enjoy a pinch and I shall do the same of some Toque Original I just received today. As such I also saw in my grandfathers journal that Toques birthday is coming up on the 17th, in honor of you and my grandfathers friendship I am asking my tribe to do a ceremony of luck and prosperity for you and yours.

There are two ways you can do this.
The first is probably more correct. Get your hands on a sealed container that can accommodate all the tins. Get a glass jar with a lid. Take a pin and make a lot of holes in the lid. Half fill with cooled boiled water. Place the jar in your container and surround the jar with the tins without their lids. Close the container and leave them for 3 nights. Try the tins in the morning of the fourth day and they could be rehydrated. If not leave them till the next morning of the fifth. The scent will be very subtle but the natural tobacco will be invigorated.
The second way is to send them back to us and we can also add flavour. However, I don’t feel this would be the right way to honour your Grandfather.
