I’m planning on placing my first order and would appreciate some recommendations.
I’m not looking for anything with lethal vitamin N but certainly flavorful. I smoke pipe and cigars but usually go for mild/medium cigars or cigarillos (because of size). I can handle slightly stronger pipe tobacco because I can pace myself and put it down if necessary.
Snuff is all new to me and I’m extremely curious about it.
Thank you so much in advance.
Like you, I am new to snuff, and also smoke cigars and pipe.
1. Start with the smallest container until you figure out what you like.
2. Order snuffs that are similar to the pipe tobacco that you enjoy. Do you like aromatic, English, Virginia , perique ?
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I’m definitely thinking about samplers or small tins. I’m also watching reviews to get a sense of what’s out there and what some reviewers think of the blend and try and relate it to my current experience.
Thank you. Sensible advice.
I also enjoy pipes and cigars. If you aren’t big into cased pipe tobacco and infused/flavored cigars, you may want to stay with basic snuff that doesn’t include a lot of extra enhancements. For sure it’s worth your time to read the descriptions before buying the smallest sample tin to try. Wilson’s Plain for example might be a good one to try as it’s free of tobacco enhancements. New to Toque, but Natural and Natural Toast seem similar. Just a thought. With so many flavors out there it’s easy to go crazy wanting to try them all. Have fun with it.
As a pipe smoker, I’ve heard about some folks sprinkling a little snuff on their bowl of tobacco for an extra kick. Maybe I’ll try it one day.
Very interesting idea at the end. Something I’ll definitely try. 👍🏼
Gosh, just had a flash back to not the first time I tried snuff, but back to 1995 when my then fiancé helped me stop smoking. Back then there were nowhere near the flavours and styles we have now. I went for all the ones that sounded like cigarettes. Then I discovered Ozona snuff, I loved the fact it was oiled and so easy to take, but also the fruit flavours and the hit of menthol. To this day I always tell beginners to try oiled snuffs first. You have less sneezing, less burn, less tears and lots more pleasure.
Thank you so much for that recommendation. Now I need to check if any in the sample pak are oiled. I think some are included but I’ll see what I have my eye on.
🙏🏼
Aside from the brand Ozona, how would one tell if a variety of snuff is oiled? For example, are any or all of the Toque snuffs oiled? I believe one of my first snuff experiences was Ozona but that was back in 1982 or so.
I found the Otto brand has oiled in the description. Only one so far.
Highly recommend the Otto line. They are all oiled. My personal favorite is Chancellor, of the ones I’ve tried so far.
Samuel Gawith Original is another very good and very easy to take snuff great for beginners as well.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I have an order out for delivery today and another that should have arrived with it. I’ll look up your recommendations and put them in my cart. I’m excited to finally try some samples.
Something that is easier on the nostrils and not as immediately sneezy I would say.
if you are a complete beginner as far as snuff goes then I would suggest that you have a nosey (excuse the pun), at the “Otto” range. They are simply delightful and have a good range of scents/flavours that give snuff tobacco a good account of itself.
Maybe even something middle road between medicated/SP would be an excellent jumping on point… McCrystsls smokers blend/ toque Quit…or even 6 Photo “Motia” (although, be sure too wipe your nose after a pinch or 5… as Motia is as black as your boot and messy as heck).
steer clear of larger tins for your first plunge into snuffing…. But if you find snuff taking agreeable and worthwhile then go large.
