So pleased to see Canadian deliveries arriving in 7 days.
So am I! 🙂
Thank you so much for your awesome service Roderick , Toque really is the best place to order snuff online.
May I ask your experience with tax?
I’ve got a shopping cart with the $50 free shipping – 16 tins
I’m not expecting a guarantee or anything but is an order like that a red flag?
Im in BC and my first order for 10 tins came in at under 100$ in duties. Ive kept my latter orders smaller so I can manage the duties a bit better. Just to give you some context. Originally when I checked the tracking it said that my fees were almost 160 but got readjusted by the time they arrived at the post.
I hope talking about duties is ok on the forum. I always pay them so I try and keep my orders small.
Hi Joseph,
Yes, talking helps us to help you.
Next time reject the payment request. Â They won’t send it back to us but they will note that you are not willing to pay their crazy tax. Â Canadian customs just make up a figure and if you pay it they will continue to charge you that rate. Â If you refuse they stop bothering and let it through untaxed.
Just an update
Everything came straight to my mailbox – fast, well packaged, and without any hassle!
Thanks so much
Hi loTeq
Iam a Canadian here as well looking to do my first order
Nice to see you got your order ,did you have to pay import duties or taxes.
If you can, keep your order under 20$ Canadian. It goes through customs without any duties and or taxes. Even 1cent over and you should prepare to be bent over. Â Yeah you pay more for shipping than the product itself but it is cheaper than the duties imposed.
I have not had any issue since keeping it under the 20$ rule.
Just want to give a big thank you to Roderick! It’s great to have such a wonderful selection available to us at fair prices.
Hello Joel
My first order came with no extra fees.
I’ve placed my 2nd order, it’s not here yet but tracking says it’s cleared customs this morning. Everything reads the same as the first order – no mention of fees.
Both of my orders were large enough to qualify for the free shipping. Roderick’s shipper has the secret sauce.
Update: I just called the Canada Post robot and gave it my tracking info. At the end of the message when it asks if I need any more help I said “Duties and Fees” to which the robot replied “There are no import fees associated with this package” or something to that effect.
Really? Interesting. If you don’t mind me asking what exactly did you order brand(s)/flavours.
I’m almost starting to think it all depends on who the border agent is that day and how they’re feeling.
As Joseph Cross said above “10 tins came in at under 100$ in duties”. I have had a similar experience, same province, same number of tins, for the same amount of duties. Maybe it is provincial based? irdk. Since then I’ve kept all my orders small to avoid duties altogether.
My second order came in this morning and yes, it also came without duties. The robot didn’t lie.
From what I’ve read it’s entirely based on the agent.

Hey there
I am getting ready to make my first order! I am in Ontario. Anyone else here in Ontario/Canada have any recommendations? At what stage do you “refuse the package” or duties? If we DO refuse it, how do we not double pay for our order from Mr. Roderick/how do we get in contact with Toquesnuff about the refused order?
Should I make a tiny order first, reject it, then do a larger order and hope it doesn’t get taxed?
Thank you for sharing @LoTeq
Alright, so I have not been lucky with big orders. Â Generally I always keep my orders under 20$ to avoid the hassle and headaches altogether. But seeing as this is the last of Bernard, not really a choice. I have gotten 1/3 of my orders for 10 or more tins going through without duties.
However this time who ever the border agent was, must be on a war path. No way in hell! Should there be this amount of tax and duties. Especially only 10 containers. For reference my last 10 tins/containers duties came in at $98.23.
I will obviously be refusing it the 2 times,

$313 is outrageous! Finally had an order get dinged last week, for the first time – $135 for 16 tins (194 grams total weight).
anyone else getting hit with customs charges for sub 20 dollar orders??
seems like my last few orders have all been stopped and charged 24-74 bucks in duty…
ideally id like to send back but with ordering such small orders id also like my snuff….
should I try ordering just single or double 20gram tins instead of 3-4?

I saw the warning about Canadian packages being searched at a higher rate recently and I’ve got a (dumb?) question about it.
Do orders get stopped and searched at random? Or are they less likely to get stopped if they include other items like Tins, Neti-pots, and T-Shirts?
I hope it calms down soon, I’ll be wanting to order again this summer.
I need a hefty resupply of St Clements, Ficus Rappee, and Tom Buck
Alright so this may or may not help.
I went back on ALL my orders and found whenever my order(s) hit the Quebec port of entry it got searched and taxed.
Recently our federal government taxed tobacco products again. Not sure if they just increased the current tax or added another one on top of it. Either way it sucks. This may be the cause of recent orders being searched more?
My 300$ duties order never made it back for a “readjustment”, one of the border agents took it home. With Roderick’s help. I just reordered, got hit again with 147ish in duties this time, unfortunately I paid the amount because you can’t get Bernard anymore and I didn’t want another border agent stealing it again while getting the price adjusted. Was positive I ordered 7 Bernard’s but only got 6 so I’m assuming 1 got stolen or 1 magically fell out of the bag.
I strongly suggest if anyone gets hit with duties just reorder it is much cheaper and time saving than waiting a month for a “readjustment” with the possibility of it getting stolen

Excellent advice. Â I don’t know what is going on but I think Canadian customs are having a clamp down.
It has gone from 2 % of orders to 10% of orders and in May I think it might have been close to 20%. Â I haven’t worked it out yet. Â Plus I think some Canadians just pay, if it is on the low side, and don’t tell us.
We haven’t seen a figure as crazy as the one 12 years ago. Â That was $900 for a $25 10 for 9 deal. Â The best we have seen was recently, a customer paid $40 for a $150 order and the worst, that is supposed to be coming back to us, was $450 for a $30 order.
Thanks for the info and insight, Roderick. It’s pretty clear that there is no trick to ordering. Big, small, whatever, it either gets caught or it doesn’t and then the individual just pulls a dollar amount out of their ass and slaps it on the parcel. In 2018 I had a Swedish candy order from Northerner get taxed as tobacco LOL. Honestly I’m surprised it’s still legal to order tobacco to canada. Meanwhile the government is actively making drugs and alcohol more and more accessible each year. Total clown country.
Seems my timing to start this hobby is less than ideal, lol. Oh well..positive thoughts moving forward. Hope I don’t have any crap to deal with.
Hello Roderick!
Order # 82767 here, a happy Canadian customer a couple times now I believe.
I ordered a bunch of the Bernards Tiger G and C, and neither of these contain tobacco. In order to help it get through customs, would you be able/willing to label “contains no tobacco” on the package in some way, or “tobacco-free product”?
Customs is getting dirty again with taxes, bah.
Thanks again m8.
Sincerely
Adrian
#82757 **** mistype sorry
I think that $30 order that got dinged $450 was mine. Got my second order no issue. Thank you Roderick. Slowly building my cart to order again.
