I might have a couple recommendations for you, or at least a tip about how to go about trying some snuff. Firstly, good choice on going to Toque to buy your first shipment, as other stores have had some issues whether from QC, shipping, pricing etc… Now maybe it would be a good idea to try one or two things from each style of snuff let’s call it. I am pretty biased towards German snuffs since they are my favorites, however I would still recommend your first order be heavier on them since they are easier to take.

However I recommend you get at least one German snuff, something well known so you have a baseline for your future endeavors. They are often mentholated, coarser ground and easier to take. Some recommendations here are: Poschl Gawith original, Poschl Gletscher Prise.

Next get some english style things, I see that you mention the qoute about medicated fine snuff used by soldiers, and while I am not very versed in English snuffs I do think McChrystal’s could be right up that alley. Also get something from WoS as they are one of the big players in English snuff, and something from their line could give a good idea of how english snuff tastes like. Then of course I have to bring up Toque, get at least one or two things from their line, Toque I wouldn’t call traditional, but they have a very good line of interesting snuffs. One of the more popular here would be Whiskey and Honey (USA version usually being more highly praised, it’s the one in brown tin), and also I would say try some of their other plain blends, something like Toque Quit, honestly one of the best snuffs ever in my opinion. Quit would give you a good idea of how a plain snuff tastes like. I also would recommend you try something coarser and darker if you think that would be up your alley, even if not, just to have an idea, something by Samuel Gawith would do well here, maybe Silky Dark.
So yeah above are listed the most essential choices in my opinion to get a good idea of snuff based on what you mention. There are other types yes, but it would be safe to build around this I think.

However, if you want something more unique there are other options, some smaller companies that make exquisite snuffs, and here I would place Rosinski and Bernard. Unfortunately they are both going out of bussines in may, so if you wanna try them I would act fast. Rosinski makes excellent natural snuffs, my recommendations here are Tabacum, and something like Berliner Luft, though they also have a absolutely heavenly collection of Schmalzlers. And I haven’t had the luck of trying Bernard yet, but they are also very famous for their Schmalzlers.

That’s all that I had in mind, feel free to take from this what you deem useful and discard the rest, but keep in mind I am far from an experienced user. And welcome to the community!

I usually just use the tap boxes that the snuff comes in, since when I am out of the house I usually use some Poschl snuff that comes in a tap box, and I mean they look pretty nice, I love their traditional designs.

Genuinely wanted to like a snuff bullet, since it really seemed convenient in some situations, but those things are so no-no

It’s a damn shame. I keep spinning scenarios in my head on what could be done to keep these wonderful producers in business, but the only things they can do is either merge with other small businesses, or get absorbed by bigger companies in hopes that their snuffs would stay the relatively same.
