Fond memory.

I know I am a real saddo.  I just looked it up and Steve Miller’s Midnight Toquer was from 1973.  Damn, I feel old.  Our very first snuffs were Original and Snus Ice.  They were introduced to the world in snuff bullets that looked a lot like a chefs hat and the two combined came up with the name.

Funnily enough a London millionaire liked my idea and copied it.  He had models carry what we remember as Cinema ushers trays in Carnaby Street in London, all supplied from a boat tailed Rolls Royce convertible and give samples of bullets to passers by.  Sadly, he failed but we continued and thrived.

What was your Grandfathers name?

Yes, I can see those would have lost their flavour.  I can tell you your Grandfather had a very good sense of smell, apart from Blueberry, they are all favourites and top notch Toques.  Grapefruit is my favourite but loses its scent very quickly after opening the tin.

I do have a tiny amount of the original Spanish Gem, and in honour of your Grandfather, I would love to send you a couple of pinches.

What flavours were they?  One or two flavours are so strong they will last for decades. Absinthe being the longest lasting.

If you get a small jar and put pin pricks in the lid, then fill it with cooled boiled water.  Next, loosen the lids of the old tins and the water jar them put in a box, tub something with a lid. this will rehydrate them.  Still might not save them but might be interesting to try.

This is such a common issue.  We have a scheme at the moment where we are giving damaged or out of date snuffs free to anyone who asks.  These so called vacuum tins are in there.  We can’t sell them so we give them away.  Unfortunately, you can miss one.  All I can say is if you are a Toque customer let us know and we will get a replacement sent to you.  Best advice is buy toque.

Snakeseye, Boy have I been there.  I won’t go back to my early years but let’s look at the last ten.  I went through menthols like I was on fire.  I absolutely loved them, and then out of the blue I got so bunged up I had to give snuff up altogether. Bad move but I went back to cigars and the very odd pinch.  I started again with plain and then flavoured and did about 2 years avoiding menthols.  Thankfully, I dropped the cigars and started back to snuff.  What I find most amusing is that now I crave more menthol and the stronger the better.

Try Artisan Brill and Fireman’s.  Both off the wall and quite unique.

Ken, you are spot on.  The only thing I can add is that an unopened bag stored in a cool place is likely to last many years, and still retain its flavour.  Humidors are great for opened tins but a kilnar jar is great for opened bags.

I am snuffing our latest creation.  Sam and Jenny Lundt approached me last year with an idea.  They wondered if I could make a snuff flavoured like an Old Fashioned cocktail.  Now I am a modern whisky/whiskey lover and I couldn’t resist the challenge.  Today we launch “Old Fashioned”.  I think you won’t just like it, you will love it.
